When are we operational?

Elective surgical activity is carried out from 8:00 to 19:00 of all workdays.

Description of the activity

Anaesthesia practice is applied in the Operating Rooms of our structure, permitting the execution of surgery, both programmed and urgent.

Anaesthetist must be present also outside operating rooms for diagnostic and therapeutic activity requiring anaesthesia procedures (N.O.R.A.).

Resuscitation anaesthesiologist are specialists carrying out their activity in Intensive Care unit (intensivist role), in operating room (anaesthesiologist role), and in pain therapy clinic.

They are continually present to respond to every kind of urgency and in-hospital emergency.

Anaesthesiologists are helped by anaesthesia nurses in the operating room.

Preoperative anaesthesia evaluation

The aim of this visit is to reduce postoperative complications.

The aim of this visit is to reduce postoperative complications.

Anaesthesia and operating room

Every surgery is performed following an anaesthesiologic procedure, which allows the patient not to feel pain, minimizing the discomfort.

Type, duration, entity and site of surgery require different kinds of anaesthesia:

– Superficial:
Topical, local, instillation, contact, infiltration anaesthesia

– Limited body districts:
Locoregional peripheral anaesthesia: truncal and plexus nerve blocks

– Extended body districts:
Locoregional central anaesthesia: subarachnoid / spinal anaesthesia, epidural/peridural anaesthesia. These techniques determine the abolition of pain in the interested districts, but do not affect the state of consciousness. They can be associated to sedation for an appropriate anxiolysis. This permits the estrangement of the patient from the surgical activity.

– All body districts, for every kind of surgery:
General anaesthesia or Narcosis. It can be realized with different techniques, using variously integrated drugs, vapours and gases. This involves airway management and vital functions control by the anaesthetist, who monitors complex parameters. General anaesthesia can be variously associated with Locoregional techniques, for better results and reduction of doses of pharmacological agents. Every surgical procedure has a protocol for postoperative pain management.

At the end of the procedure, the patient is transferred to the wards.

For longer procedures, a short stay in Recovery Room is included for stabilisation of vital parameters.

Complex procedures and patients with serious conditions are sent to Intensive Care Unit to optimize postoperative conditions.

Information and communication

We are very attentive to relations between patient and doctor.

Information about anaesthesia to which the patient will be subjected, will be provided in the clinic, during preoperative procedures. Every programmed surgery requires a meeting between the patient and the anaesthetist.

For surgeries classified as urgency/emergency this information will be given directly in preparation room, where the patient will be received before being transferred to operating room.

Intensive Care

The service is also available at another one of our structures. It is a strong point of:
