Purposes of hospitalization

Hospitalization aims at taking care of rehabilitation needs and the possible recovery of autonomy in everyday activities of people suffering from disabilities that limit active participation to normal living. This takes place by sharing activities and rehabilitation objectives between professionals of the multidisciplinary team, with active involvement of patient and relatives.

Our team commitment refers particularly to:

  • Care and assistance of the patient with full respect for human dignity
  • A clear and comprehensive explanation about diagnostic and therapeutic path
  • Willingness to constantly communicate with the patient and his family
  • A swift assessment and management of any personal request to constantly improve the service

Areas of intervention in this unit

Main rehabilitation services are:

  • Motor rehabilitation for patients with orthopaedic conditions (placement of hip and knee prosthesis, osteosynthesis for fractured femur, polytraumas, etc.)
  • Neuromotor rehabilitation for patients with results of acute or chronic neurological diseases, possibly combining physiokinetic therapy with assessment and training for cognitive, language and swallowing impairment.

Particular attention is dedicated to the earliness of intensive rehabilitation treatments, which can be decisive for the overall outcome of surgery and for functional recovery.

Doctor-patient relations

Rehabilitation unit offers consultancy to other wards. It can give physiatrical evaluation for respiratory, orthopaedic, neurologic, oncologic conditions and disabilities connected to hospitalization. After specialistic assessment, rehabilitation process can start with a personalized therapeutic program. Particular attention is dedicated to women after breast surgery: the unit is part of the professional team who takes care of women subject to mammary surgery (diagnostic and assistance programs for breast cancer). In addition to post-surgery consulting (functional assessment, personal advice about recovery of upper limb motility and return to everyday life, an information booklet on exercise to carry out autonomously), there is a department clinic dedicated to patients with these conditions, with a preferential line for taking charge of them for treatment of complications related to surgery and therapies (limited upper limb motility, lymphedema, etc.).

“Mind is the heart of recovery; passion is the core of rehabilitation process”
