Intensive Care takes care of patients with acute or chronic conditions from other wards of this Hospital and others, directly through Emergency Room or through the territorial emergency network (118).
It also takes care of patients subject to major surgeries with important associated comorbidities.
Usually Intensive Care treatment lasts until vital signs are stabilized.
Conditions treated
Intensive Care treats the critical phase of life-threatening conditions, with specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, with the use of high complexity resources.
The principle of humanization of cures inspired the realization of the new Intensive Care unit, to make patients the core of therapeutic process.
This principle opposes excessive medicalization of healthcare areas, diagnostic and therapeutic processes and relations between doctor and patient with the objective of restore humanity, familiarity, identity and relations typical of people more than patients, at the same time maintaining healthcare excellence of modern medicine.
To this end it aims at the satisfying the needs of patients and their loved ones, considering the strong emotional content of these experiences.

other regions, following them before, during and after their stay.
In this ward we take care of patients with acute or reacutized respiratory conditions, such as cases of serious respiratory failure, treated with respiratory support units.
Critically ill patients with unstable vital signs and functions are also treated: serious infections, sepsis and septic shock, severe traumas and polytraumas, cardiac and neurological diseases compromising other organs and systems, kidney, liver and metabolic failures, multiorganic syndromes and drowning.
Patients subject to complex surgery and presenting important associated conditions, are admitted in Intensive Care unit to optimize postoperative recovery.
Integrated monitoring systems, complex medical equipment, articulated diagnostic and therapeutic strategies represent the state-of-art solutions adopted in Intensive Care unit, with the objective to deal with the most complex conditions modern medicine can present.
Multidisciplinary treatment
Intensive care activity is carried out by a team of professionals constantly and exclusively present (Anaesthetists and reanimation medics, critical care nurses) and collaborating with all specialists and all professionals in the Hospital.
Intensive Care personnel is strongly motivated to assist and take care of the entrusted patient’s needs.
“What matters most in medicine is not the disease affecting the patient, but the patient affected by that diseases. – Hippocrates”
