COMMITTEE FOR THE CONTROL OF HOSPITAL-ACQUIRED INFECTIONS
Prevention of hospital-acquired infections is a primary objective of our hospital. The committee, created in 2002 and chaired by the Chief Medical Officer, is responsible for defining policies and prevention and control measures for infections caused by health care practice, for checking compliance with hygienic-sanitary protocols and for supporting medics and nurses in actions aimed at combating and preventing diffusion of pathogens.

 

DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION COMMITTEE
The ever growing diffusion of biomedical equipment and advanced technology for diagnosis and therapy, has radically changed the approach to health care. New diagnostic-therapeutic solutions are adopted and exercise of clinical activity is hyperspecialized and extended to the territory and to the patient’s home with telemedicine. This scenario requires the definition of “methodological and decision-making protocols” and appropriate and sustainable development programs. Development committee’s function is to offer practical support to the Administration, through the elaboration of business plans aimed to the acquisition of innovative technology and the development of correlated clinical and organisational protocols. The committee operates by making single projects coherent with corporate health care objectives and exercises the role of supervisor on ethical, clinic and managerial results.

HOSPITAL THERAPY COMMITTEE
The Committee develops strategies for evaluation, selection and rational use of medicines within the structure, according to criteria based on proven effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness and patient acceptability. It also promotes training initiatives on the proper use of medications addressed to healthcare personnel.

 

 

COMMITTEE FOR PATIENT SAFETY AND CLINICAL RISK MANAGEMENT
The Hospital implemented a quality management system to instil in all healthcare personnel culture and knowledge of best clinical practice, appropriateness and review of performance. Support instruments for healthcare quality and risk reduction and management are adopted in all the operational units and services. The Committee for Patient Safety, chaired by the Chief Medical Officer, shall exercise its functions through definition of risk management activities, specific training initiatives, collective assessment of adverse events and quasi-events, drafting of guidelines for patient safety. Through instruments like “Clinical Audit” or “Root Cause Analysis”, it periodically performs proactive analysis of criticalities and defines risk prevention measures.

 

 

PAIN-FREE HOSPITAL COMMITTEE
With the institution of the Committee, P. Pederzoli Hospital started a project to deal on a multidisciplinary basis with various issues connected with the “pain problem”, whatever origin it may have.
Committee activity:

  • Promote a continuous training of medical personnel on principles of pain management, use of medications and techniques of pain evaluation.
  • Promote the elaboration and distribution of information material about pain therapy.
  • Control of elaboration and diffusion of guidelines/protocols for treatment of different kinds of pain.
  • Guarantee monitoring of guidelines/protocols application and effectiveness evaluation.
  • Promote suitable measures to ensure the availability of analgesic medications (particularly opioid) and periodic assessment of their use.

 

 

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE FOR TRAINING
P.Pederzoli Hospital is Regional Provider of Regione Veneto for training and Continuing Medical Education, with regional code 56. This activity implies absolute scientific method and independence for offered events. This is accomplished by analysis and evaluation by the Scientific Committee of contents, lecturers, formative models and eventual patronage and financial supports.

 

Functions

    Judgement is formulated by S.C. during formal meetings, based on scientific evaluation by:

    • Proposer/scientific director
    • Rationale, objectives and impact of the course
    • Formative model
    • Speakers
  • Moreover this shall be considered:
    • Eventual patronage
    • Eventual sponsorships
  • Evaluate the general formative mode
    Taking account of:

    • Law requirements of certain courses (safety of workers ex D.Lgl 81/08, fire prevention, privacy ex D.Lgs 196/03, cardiocirculatory emergency -BLSD, ACLS, PBLSD, …-, hospital-acquired infections ex L.R. 22/02, clinical risk and patient safety)
    • Consistency with general objectives defined by the Region
    • Consistency with general objectives of Casa di Cura
    • Consistency with specific objectives of individual operational units/Services
    • Integration with operational units/Services activity
  • Evaluate the events, considering:
    • Coherence with planning
    • Participation in quantitative and qualitative terms
    • Learning, achievement of prearranged objectives and eventual impact

 

 

CORPORATE TECHNICAL COMMISSION – MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
Medical equipment is taking an increasingly important role in sanitary material, thanks to new technologies that bring constant and consistent progress and make available to doctors and patients always new instruments for diagnosis and cure. Veneto Region reorganized technical commissions’ network. Analysis and evaluation of technology are up to the commission, on these basis:

  • Documented effectiveness,
  • Product innovation,
  • Appropriateness of use,
  • Respect of corporate budgetary targets.

 

Tasks

  • Evaluate acquisition requests of medical equipment not included in corporate repertoire;
  • Evaluate requests for entry of medical equipment in corporate repertoire;
  • Monitor energy consumption of medical equipment, particularly in areas with the greatest expenditure impact;
  • Support management in the respect of expenditure ceilings;
  • Coordinate the activities of vigilance on equipment;
  • Diffuse and monitor the application of recommendations and guidelines defined by the commission;
  • Draw up reports on the activity;
  • Propose organisational solutions for equipment governance to the management.
